FAQ

So  I've been getting a lot of questions recently. A lot of them are basically the same and seem to be about how to fiddle around with a layout. Since I'm now a busy bee and will most likely lack the time to answer your questions - the "how do i change ..." kind - I'm just gonna add stuff here.

01. HOW DO I ADD A BACKGROUND IMAGE?
a) your layout already has a background image.
find body and change the image url in background: url(http://image.com/background.png);.
b) your layout DOESN'T have a background image.
> your image is a tileable pattern:
find body and change background-color:#HEXCODE; to background: #HEXCODE url(http://image.com/background.png) repeat fixed 0 0;
> your image is just one image, not a pattern:
find body and change background-color:#HEXCODE; to background: #HEXCODE url(http://image.com/background.png) no-repeat fixed 0 0;
> you want your image to scroll with the journal when scrolling down:
change fixed to scroll.
please also note that sometimes the background of some elements on the page is set transparent, while sometimes I defined the same original background color for it too. if you don't want them to have a simple background color, just change the hex code of the color to transparent.

02. HOW DO I ADD A HEADER IMAGE?
I swear, there must be a dozen tutorials for this, but it's simpler if I just add it here, I guess. :)
first thing you should do, find the header & footer section in your codes, and check if it has a class called .headerimage. if it doesn't, or it says something along the lines of no headerimage in this layout, then you can't add a header, sorry.
it's very likely though, that if it is a header-friendly layout, i've already added some codes. if i didn't, they should look like this:
.headerimage {position: relative>;
width: 500px; /* Width of the banner, in pixels */
height: 200px; /* Height of the banner, in pixels */
margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 0px;
background: url(http://image.com/header.png) no-repeat scroll 0 0;

Of course, you should adjust width and height to your own image.

03. I'VE GOT A HUGE SPACE BETWEEN MY METADATA AND THE ENTRY TEXT!
This is an issue that mainly happens in sidebar layouts and I haven't yet come up with a perfect solution for it. I've worked it out though that this is caused by the lists in the sidebar, and the ads just make it worse. What you can do here is:
find ul.sbarlist in the sidebar section in your codes and add the following:
max-height:200px;overflow:scroll; overflow-x:hidden; overflow-y:auto;
this will turn your lists into a neat scroll-y box and makes the space a bit less.

04. HOW DO I ADD THE TEXT TO MY SIDEBAR/TOPBAR?
just go to options -> sidebar and add it to the blurb box.

Please, if you've got any questions comment here or on my help post. If you've got some special kind of problem, please also tell me what browser you are using, it's happened a lot lately that I don't see a problem with the journal while it is cluttered in other browsers.
